The 9th Prime Minister of Turkey (1950–1960) and the first democratically elected leader after the country’s transition to a multi-party system. His tenure was defined by large-scale industrialization and economic liberalization. The airport was named in 1987 to commemorate his role in the modernization of the Turkish state and infrastructure.
